On Tuesday September 9th 2007 Temple University hosted
"The Farmer's Market"
at the Liacouras Walk.
Customers browsing through
the market could pick up free
information about the event.
A person could find out a
variety of things about organic
goods and keeping our planet
greener.
John King owner and operator
of Hill Top Gardens sells his
produce, baked goods, and
apple cider. Hill Top Farms
is located in Lancaster County
in Pennsylvania.
Here shows the wide variety
of produce that Hill Top Farms
provides. The lettuce and
squash to the left are a couple
out of many very large pieces of
vegetation. Some are as big as
people's heads.
Another venue that "The Market"
had to offer was Katie Haegele's
"zine" collection. Zines are another
way for writers to publish there
work for relatively low cost and
easy production.
Haegele's collection prices can
run from $1 to $4. The production
cost for one of these little books
can be under $1.
Haegele said that her favorite written
zines are "Nuns I've Known" and "Obsolete."
One of the last stops at this
month's market is at
Mary Jane Reilly's
hand bag table. However,
these handbags are not
ordinary. They are made out
of retail plastic bags. Prices ranged
for each bag from $15 to $35.
Reilly's favorite handbag
is the one that she made out
of Pay Half bags. She especially
enjoys the design that
the retail bag makes with
the alternating colors of black
and white.
I ended my journey through
Temple's "Farmer Market"
by enjoying a pear from
John King's produce stand.
